Press ReleaseLA><ART is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new sculpture by Ragen Moss. Scrutinizing what the artist calls “regimes of representation, both visual and political,” Moss’ sculpture is both a formal and linguistic approach to humanistic concerns; often body-size, her abstract plastic objects incorporate words and fragments of text that have an undoubted relationship to social conduct, protest, and civic-formation. Hung minimally in LA><ART’s Project Spaces 2 and 3, these works allow for a quite viewing in which the tenor and texture of abstract ideas might emerge. For example, recent bodies of work have investigated the political framework around the notion of care and how the act of caring might be represented, while other work has focused on the complexity of speech and the social exchanges it engenders. In this respect, all of Moss’ projects treat viewers as full citizen-beings capable of integrating the political self with aesthetic perception. Rage Moss holds an MFA from UCLA in Interdisciplinary Studio, a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Columbia University, and a Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law.
