Press Release

Anna Sew Hoy Public Sculpture
Responding to Kings Road Park’s constellation-like design that incorporates a water fountain, a waterfall, a jungle gym, and various seating elements, LA><ART is pleased to announce the addition of a public art installation by Los Angeles-based artist Anna Sew Hoy. Inspired by the work of modernist architect Irving Gill, Sew Hoy’s sculpture will mobilize simple forms and ornamentation to emphasize engagement with the environment and with livable space. Like many of Gill’s buildings, the sculpture will explore relationships between symmetry and asymmetry, eventually intertwining itself within the park’s landscape and becoming part of its everyday use and function.

The sculpture will relate to the human form through its scale, standing between four and five feet atop the grassy knoll and between the white rocks that are already in the park. Made of enamel washed stoneware and an embedded mirror, the sculpture will highlight the act of seeing; offering passersby a viewfinder, a mirror reflection, and an opaque silhouette. Visitors will be able to experience the constantly changing views through the mirror as they move through the park. The sculpture will allow park visitors to encounter something new every time they visit by reflecting different views as they navigate the surroundings of the work.

LA><ART and L.A.P.D. present Anna Sew Hoy’s public sculpture in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood’s Art on the Outside Program. The sculpture is located at Kings Road Park, at the intersection of Kings Road and Romaine Street, just a block below Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.
