LA><ART INAGURAL WINDOW PROJECT WITH DANNY JAUREGUI

SEPTEMBER 9 – OCTOBER 31, 2006

Danny Jauregui, Broken Corner, 2006, Courtesy of the Artist

LA><ART is pleased to present Danny Jauregui’s Broken Corner curated by Aram Moshayedi. Inaugurating a series of artist’s interventions, LA><ART’s window project continues a commitment to response and dialogue, utilizing the window situated in the building’s façade to engage the traffic of La Cienega Blvd. Relying on transparency and visibility, LA><ART’s window project connects interior and exterior space through drawing, sculpture and small-scale installation.

For Broken Corner (2006), Jauregui has adapted his signature ash and graphite drawing style to the materials of vinyl and glass to further his interests in the rendering of the city’s repressed histories through points of architectural decay. As in other drawings from his series, Broken Corner evokes modern architectural form through a linear minimalism to reveal points of rupture and seepage in the urban landscape.

Jauregui received his MFA from the University of California, San Diego in 2005. His work has been included in exhibitions throughout San Diego, Tijuana, and Los Angeles in such venues as the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and the Orange County Museum of Art. In 2006 his drawings were exhibited in the project space at Acuna Hansen Gallery in Los Angeles where he will also have his first solo show in October of 2007.
